~ A Guide to Slim Pickens & Dr. Baz first CD RELEASE entilted "Catus" ~
Cactus : a leafless and spikey plant, often producing showy flowers, native of hot dry regions;
Australian colloquial : "ruined, old and burnt-out, beyond repair"; as in : "...this bloody washing machine is cactus!!!!".
"Cactus" is a foot-stompin' collection of some of our favourite roots music (played in 'cajun cowboy blues' style), plus a couple of choice originals.
Winner of 2004 NCEIA 'Dolphin' Award.

Bring it On Home by Willie Dixon
Read some interesting background on the colourful life a great blues artist. He was an imnportant & influential songwriter (ripped-off by some later rock gods) and also a heavy-weight boxing champ. |
Leadbelly sugar-coats his savage tribute to the victims of U.S. Depression era racism, with a cheerful honky-tonk beat. Media coverage of this controversially unjust trial eventually changed race politics forever.
Scottsborough Boys by Leadbelly |
Ditty Wah Ditty by the great mystery man of the blues, Blind Blake, (with a profile of what little is known of this enigmatic guitar genius) |
